RAFA Shoreham 70th Anniversary Battle of Britain Airshow

Page last updated on Wednesday, August 18, 2010

After a break of some years, the Spitfire Society is delighted to be back at the Shoreham Airshow on August 21st and 22nd 2010.

Our Members Rendezvous Point will be at our sales stand (which is a ‘sales tent’) located in the easy to find charities section of the showground. Shoreham Airport is a five minute walk from Shoreham Railway Station located between Brighton and Worthing on the cost line in West Sussex.

Road access is directly off the A27 east - west major route. In addition to the Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary Shoreham Airport also celebrates a century of continuous flying - it was Britain’s first airport!

A point to note our trading company Spitfire Enterprises will also be airing many new items for the first time on our stand. Come in and tell us what you think and what you want to have available in the future – the answer will be yes!

The Flying Displays on both days there will be a continuous display from 11.00 to 17.00 hours! A list of the participants is at the foot of this article.

As we write this (Monday August 16th), it has been announced that the Vulcan will fly a display on BOTH days. Saturday at 14.50 hours and Sunday at 16.32 hours

(Keep an eye on their website; www.vulcantothesky.org). By the way, did also know that the Vulcan is fifty years old this year!

The RAF will have two Harriers on static show and third flying a thrilling routine. A Chinook should be able to display too. The Red Arrows have something unique for this Shoreham Airshow as well. As you can see there’s much promised – all subject to Service and servicing commitments.

Civilian Displays promise much, including wing walking and aerobatics but, of course, just look at the cast list of historic aircraft appearing. More aircraft are being added all the time.

Historic Aircraft ; there will be a Spitfire and Hurricane BofB style ‘scramble with role enactors, pyrotechnics, vehicles and much more. Boeing B17G Sally B will be there with Plane Sailing’s Catalina.

To keep up to date with more surprises yet to be announced and check out the Shoreham Airshow website. www.shorehamairshow.com

In total, there will be about seventy aircraft to entertain you and both days promise the finest display of modern and historic aircraft with the most exceptional pilots that Europe has to offer.

The Purpose of the Airshow is to provide the Royal Air Force Association with more funds to do more valuable work in providing friendship help and support to all those that are or have served this country in the Royal Air Force.

The RAFA Airshow at Shoreham commenced 21 years ago and in that time has contributed more than one and half million pounds.

This year’s show launches the national RAFA 2010 Wings Appeal. The 2009 Airshow contributed £160,000 alone.

More than ever,  the RAFA 2010 Wings Appeal deserves and needs your support.
