75th Anniversary of the first flight of K5054

Page last updated on Thursday, February 3, 2011

You will probably be aware that the 5th of March this year marks the seventy fifth anniversary of the first flight of the prototype Spitfire:  K5054.

You may also know that the Spitfire Society has a faithful and very beautiful replica of this aircraft built by a team of Society members led by Bill Williams.

To mark the anniversary we shall be joining forces with the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust and exhibiting our K5054 at the National Memorial to the Few at Capel-le-Ferne near Folkestone over the weekend of the 5th and 6th of March.

One of our members, Steve Burt, will be supporting the event with the inspired “Fly-with-a-Spitfire” experience. (see: www.goactionstations.com).

His two helicopters will be operating with Janice and Guy Black’s Spitfire Mk V, BM597, flown by Spitfire Society patron Charlie Brown.

The three aircraft will be airborne over and around the memorial site providing a flight to remember for the fortunate and a series of spectacles throughout the weekend for the earth-bound amongst us.

The good news is that a few places are available for Spitfire Society members to fly with the Spitfire on the Sunday; so if you are interested e-mail David Evans vicechair@spitfiresociety.com
