'Grandma flew Spitfires' !!

A member of the Society had a chance meeting with a friend recently and heard that a new organisation had just been established which will be of considerable interest to members of the Society – "Grandma Flew Spitfires". This evocative and unusual title is behind a new Museum to document the whole history of the Air Transport Auxiliary' – the famed ATA.

Our senior Patron – Lettice Curtis – is undoubtedly the doyen of a number of women pilots still with us and her record of flying a huge number of aircraft types is legion. Now in her 96th year, we can think of no better way of honouring her than supporting this venture.

We are therefore very pleased to put the following on our website which has been sent to us by Richard Poad, MBE who is Chairman of the Maidenhead Heritage Centre and is leading the appeal for funds for the new Museum: He is a former airline pilot and now devotes himself to this most worthy project.
