8. Spitfire’s Echo
David Evans’ long project to design and build a flying replica MkIX Spitfire he calls Type-2K! It is actually a two-seat version with the second seat disguised to give the impression of a single-seat
fighter! This article describes his story so far;
from conception in 2000 (hence Type-2K) to the beginnings of the ‘aeronautical phase’. He feels that, after all the efforts, it will be worthwhile keeping all the jigs etc so the aircraft can be reproduced again and again…

This remarkable character has done most things!
From flying Ops on Wellingtons to a US nuclear
bomber during the cold war. From racing cars
and boats to being, probably, the world’s leading
authority on Autogyros (holding 34 world
records)! It is Ken’s ‘Little Nellie’ which (flown by
Ken) starred in James Bond’s ‘You Only Live
Twice’. Oh, yes, he’s nearly 94!
